Tuesday, June 15, 2010
MEXICO CITY -(Dow Jones)- Nissan Motor Company Ltd. (NSANY, 7201.TO) said Tuesday it has begun exporting the Tiida compact from its plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico to five new markets.

Nissan Mexicana said in a press release that the new markets for the Tiida model are Angola, Armenia, Ghana, Libya and Nigeria.

The first 96 of the Tiida exports, both in its sedan and hatchback models, left for their new markets in recent days from the ports of Acapulco and Veracruz, the company said.

In April, Nissan said it began exporting Tiida models from Mexico to Persian Gulf countries.

Nissan hopes to send 5,500 Tiidas to the new markets during the current fiscal year, which ends March 31.

In global terms, Nissan Mexicana said it exported 225,726 cars in calendar year 2009-mostly Tiidas and Sentras.

It said it expects Tiida exports alone to increase by 48.5% in the current fiscal year.

Top markets for the compact are the U.S. -- where the car is called the Versa -- Canada, and South American countries.

Nissan Mexicana said it exports to 75 different countries on four continents.
